But, Nintendo pulled all that to keep the Switch version from being inferior.The game was clearly designed around the Wii U game pad from its inception.But maybe OP and his girlfriend are more into playing on the TV.It has a good library and I expect that I'll start using it for its (imperfect) Wii emulation so that I can play some of those games upstairs again.I also have a switch, and if i were to reccomend one, it would be the switch, because you can have the future games made by nintendo and some of the great games released for it so far.I clocked around 300 hours on it and had so much fun doing so.Compare that to Zelda games available on Switch: Breath of The Wild Link's Awakening Hyrule Warriors The Legend of Zelda Zelda II A Link To The Past.If you can play it on PC do that, if you can't, I didn't really notice a huge difference between the Switch and Wii U version and I put dozens and dozens of hours into both versions.
